Hostelling in Toronto
Hostelling is a great way to save money and meet new people. I'm in hostel mode and I'm looking for cheapest accomodations a la cheap. Location and friendly people are also important factors. Luckily, there are many hostels scattered over downtown Toronto. As well, the University of Toronto residences are available during summer for cheap. If you have any comments about the hostels the my list, feel free to let me know by email.
1. Canadiana Backpackers Inn
This Canadian-themed hostel is probably the best hostel in Toronto. For $25/night, you won't find a cheaper deal. It is a 2 minute walk to the clubs and bars. The rooms are clean, the matresses are thick, the people are friendly and there is unlimited free pancakes for breakfast.
2. Planet Traveller's Hostel
The geothermal powered hostel in Toronto. It has pipes going 115 meters into the ground to get heat from the Earth's core. It also has solar panels at the rootop patio bar. It costs $30/night and is located close to Kensington market and Chinatown.
3. Backpackers On Dundas
Sometimes as cheap as $18/night and located 2 minutes away from the Eaton Center and Dundas Square. You can also walk to City Hall, Chinatown or the Art Gallery of Ontario within 5 minutes. And again, at $18 (which includes towel service), it is the cheapest hostel you will find in Toronto.
4. Global Village Backpackers Hostel
A 5 minute walk from Toronto's clubbing district and close to some nice restaurants. This hostel is $25/night and features pancakes, an in-house pub and restaurant, pool tables, and even karaoke. If you like partying and drinking, come give this hostel a try.
